Reasons to Invest In Bowen?

The Galilee Coal Project will provide around 360 new permanent jobs in Bowen during it's operational life and many more jobs will be created during the construction period over the next 3-4 years.

According to government economic estimates that equates to a further 180 permanent jobs in and around Bowen to support the needs of these new workers and their families.

The bottom line is - 540 new jobs!!!!

That equates to at least 1000 people moving into Bowen as a result of just one project. With 3-4 other coal projects of this size or greater also approved for export out of Bowen there will be quite a number of residents looking for homes.

Bowen Expecting a Property Boom!!!

BOWEN is set to become one of the state's hottest spots to invest in property.

The North Queensland coastal town is located about 25km south-east of the Abbot Point coal terminal and is expected to boom when the State Government releases its latest plans for expanding the port.

Smart Property Investment magazine has named the town, which currently has about 10,000 residents, as one of 50 suburbs and towns in the country that will have the best performing housing market in coming years.

Bowen real estate agent Tony Doyle said the area would likely see a huge influx of workers moving to the town when the State Government finalised the plan for the latest extension to the Abbot Point coal terminal.

"At the moment we have 178 vacant properties in town, which is actually as bad as it has been for years," he said.

"But if 1000 or 2000 people move here to build the expansion to Abbot Point we simply won't have enough houses and units to fit everyone. We will have to build demountable housing to try to keep up.

"If that happens obviously rents and values are going to get pushed much higher because of the increase in demand for rental properties."

Whitsunday Mayor Mike Brunker said the area should be attractive to property investors because the town would likely see strong economic growth from the upgraded port and a boost in expected tourist numbers. "Bowen is a great place to live and it will have plenty of jobs and investment going on with Abbot Point, but we are also expecting more and more tourists to arrive in town," he said.

"When contractors finish working up here they are either going to want to stay or tell everyone they know back home how good the place is."

Smart Property Investment editor Phil Tarrant agreed that the area would become more attractive to tourists.

"It's on the coast in an area that hasn't already become overwhelmed with backpackers so we think more people are going to see it as a bit of an undiscovered gem," he said.

"And unlike a lot of booming areas it's not hot, dusty and in the middle of nowhere."
